In his elder years, Takayama was the center of activity for master haiku writer Kobayashi Issa.
While living in the guesthouse of one of our most famous residents, Kubota Shunkou,
Issa taught the art of writing haiku to many.
Over time, these students have held on to Issa's teachings and the treasures that he left behind.
Our museum, Issakan, is now the home for these priceless collections and traditions.
